In a political spectacle that feels more like a season finale than a press briefing, President Donald Trump has reignited his feud with tech mogul Elon Musk—this time with a threat that’s raising eyebrows across the globe: deportation.

The drama unfolded after Musk launched a barrage of criticisms against Trump’s signature spending bill, calling it a “disgusting abomination” and accusing the administration of ballooning the national debt by trillions. Musk, who was once a close ally and even led the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) under Trump, has since turned into one of the bill’s fiercest critics.
When asked by reporters whether he would consider deporting Musk—who was born in South Africa but became a U.S. citizen in 2002—Trump responded ominously: “I don’t know. We’ll have to take a look.” He then added, “We might have to put DOGE on Elon. DOGE is the monster that might have to go back and eat Elon. Wouldn’t that be terrible?”
The President’s comments were followed by a fiery post on Truth Social, where he claimed Musk receives more subsidies than any human in history and suggested that without them, Musk would “have to close up shop and head back home to South Africa”.
Musk, never one to back down, responded on X (formerly Twitter): “So tempting to escalate this. So, so tempting. But I will refrain for now.”
The feud has already rattled markets, with Tesla stock dropping nearly 7% following Trump’s remarks. Meanwhile, Musk has threatened to launch a third political party and primary any Republican who supports the bill, calling the GOP the “Porky Pig Party” and accusing them of betraying their fiscal promises.
Whether this war of words escalates into actual policy—or just remains a headline-grabbing clash of titans—is yet to be seen. But one thing’s clear: the bromance is officially over, and the fallout could reshape the political and tech landscape in ways no one saw coming.
