Washington, D.C. — In a stunning escalation of his feud with President Donald Trump, tech mogul Elon Musk announced Saturday that he is forming a new political party, dubbed the America Party, following the passage of Trump’s controversial “Big Beautiful Bill.”

Musk, who once served as head of the Department of Government Efficiency under Trump, broke ranks over the bill’s sweeping tax cuts and spending increases, calling it “a disgusting abomination” and “political suicide.” After a July 4th poll on his social platform X showed 65% support for a new party, Musk declared: “By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it. Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom”
.
The announcement has already drawn interest from political figures including Mark Cuban and Anthony Scaramucci, while longtime Trump allies like Roger Stone and Steve Bannon have condemned the move, warning it could fracture the conservative vote.
Musk has suggested the party will target a handful of swing Senate and House seats, aiming to become a decisive force in Congress under slim majorities. However, experts caution that forming a viable third party faces steep legal and logistical hurdles, including ballot access laws and entrenched opposition from both major parties.
The America Party’s platform remains vague, though early supporters have floated ideas ranging from AI-driven government reform to military modernization. Critics argue the party could be more disruptive than constructive, with some calling it a vanity project born of political spite.
Whether Musk’s new venture reshapes the political landscape or fizzles under institutional pressure remains to be seen—but one thing is clear: the billionaire’s break with Trump has turned into a full-blown political rebellion.
